Specialties

Procedure that examines the functioning of the heart with the use of tubes or catheters designed to work inside the cardiovascular system.
This procedure is performed in a CathLab and allows to get a pressure record of the cardiac cavities and main blood vessels, identify coronary obstructions and treat them through the use of stents or endoprostheses.

Minimally invasive procedure that consits of unblocking the narrowing coronary arteries through the use of small balloons and stents to restore blood flow to tissue at risk of infarction.
The benefits of coronary angioplasty are to increase blood flow through the narrowing artery, decrease chest pain (angia), increase in physical capacity limited by symptoms and decrease mortality.

It is an area of interventional cardiology that uses catheters, balloons and dedicated metallic devices for the treatment of conditions that affect the structure of the heart.
These include the closure of congenital or acquired defects of the atrial or ventricular septum, the closure of the atrial appendage in patients at risk of cardiac embolism, reduction in size of the interventricular septum in patients with hypertrophy cardiomyopathy, repair of the mitral valve (Mitraclip) and replacement of the aortic valve through catheter (TAVI).

Can international visitors receive cardiology care while staying in San Miguel de Allende?
Yes. Visitors, retirees, and part-time residents frequently consult with cardiologists during their time in Mexico. Appointments may include heart health evaluations, medication management, review of previous test results, and ongoing monitoring of existing cardiovascular conditions.
When should someone schedule a consultation with an interventional cardiologist?
Patients may benefit from a cardiology evaluation if they experience symptoms such as chest discomfort, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeats, dizziness, or unexplained fatigue. A consultation can help determine whether further testing or treatment is needed to assess cardiovascular health.
What cardiovascular conditions are commonly monitored over time?
Long-term cardiology care is often recommended for conditions such as coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, heart rhythm disorders, heart valve disease, elevated cholesterol, and heart failure. Regular follow-up visits can help track progress and support effective disease management.
What happens during a comprehensive cardiac evaluation?
A cardiology assessment typically includes a review of medical history, symptoms, medications, lifestyle factors, and cardiovascular risk factors. Additional diagnostic studies such as ECGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, or ambulatory heart monitoring may be recommended when appropriate.
Why do patients seek specialized heart care in San Miguel de Allende?
Many patients appreciate having access to cardiovascular specialists while living in or visiting the area. Receiving consultations, follow-up care, and diagnostic testing locally can help maintain continuity of care and reduce delays in addressing potential heart-related concerns.
