Hand surgery is sometimes necessary to treat issues that are painful and/or hinder function, strength, or flexibility. Issues from trauma, sports injuries, work activities, tumors (benign or malignant), falls, congenital (present at birth) as well as degenerative.
In many cases, we can perform procedures minimally invasively as opposed to traditional “open” surgery.
Common Hand Procedures: Carpal-tunnel release, and trigger-finger release.
Also other procedures:
- Hand fractures
- Amputations
- Lymphedema
- Degenerative and Rheumatoid arthritis
- Repair tendons and ligaments
- Wrist Arthroscopy and helping with pain and ligaments

Most women are candidates for breast reconstruction, it can be performed at the same time as the mastectomy (immediate reconstruction) or later, regardless of the time that has passed.
There are different types of reconstructions:
- Expanders or prostheses
- Tissue from the patient herself with or without microsurgical technique (autologous reconstruction)
- A combination of these
The goal of breast reconstruction is to restore one or both breasts to near normal shape, appearance, symmetry and size following mastectomy, lumpectomy or congenital deformities.
The selection of the reconstruction method is individualized according to the conditions and wishes of the patient.

This is a painful accumulation of fluid in the arms and legs. Compression garments and anti-inflammatory drugs can ease the swelling, and electric pumps can push the fluid along, but neither provides a long-lasting solution.
The lymphatic system extends throughout the body, with vessels that absorb protein-rich and white blood cell–filled fluid from tissues and transport it to lymph nodes. When the vessels can’t properly drain this fluid, it builds up in the tissue, causing lymphedema.
Risk factors of developing lymphedema include:
- Certain types of cancer that affect the lymphatic system
- Radiation therapy (radiotherapy) that causes scarring of the lymph nodes and vessels
- Surgery to remove lymph nodes
- Trauma and tissue damage
- Venous disease
- Being overweight
- Infection in a limb such as cellulitis
- Some chemotherapy drugs
- Existing problem with the lymphatic system
- Parasites – such as worms, which may inhabit and block a lymphatic vessel
- Decreased mobility

Severe wounds can cause a significant amount of damage to the skin and musculoskeletal system and may need surgical treatment to heal properly.
Some types of open wounds include:
- Abrasions
- Lacerations
- Punctures
- Burns
There is a variety of methods to repair and reconstruct wounds so they heal correctly and visible scarring is minimized.
- Skin Grafts
- Flap Surgery or Microsurgery
- Hair Implants
Reconstructing the skin and muscle tissue at the site of a severe wound not only helps reduce scarring, but aids in wound healing.

Quality Care
We study each of the parts that make up the site to be rebuilt so that we can comprehensively restore function (nerves, muscles, bones), vascularity (arteries and veins), special covering of the face, hands or feet and provide the most normal appearance through different techniques (microsurgery, treatment of fractures, flaps, hair implant).

What conditions are treated by a reconstructive plastic surgeon?
A reconstructive plastic surgeon treats conditions that affect appearance and function due to trauma. Cancer, burns, congenital differences, infections, or chronic wounds. Treatment may include breast reconstruction, hand surgery, microsurgery, peripheral nerve repair, limb preservation, and soft-tissue reconstruction, all depends on each patient’s diagnosis and treatment goals.
Should I get a second opinion before reconstructive surgery?
Seeking a second opinion is often helpful before undergoing reconstructive surgery, particularly for complex injuries, cancer-related procedures, or chronic wounds. Another specialist can review your diagnosis and explain surgical techniques. They can discuss your expected recovery. They can help you make an informed decision about your treatment options.
Can reconstructive surgery help heal chronic wounds or diabetic foot ulcers?
Yes. Reconstructive surgery may improve healing by restoring healthy tissue, increasing blood flow, reducing infection risk, and protecting exposed structures. Patients with diabetic foot ulcers or chronic wounds may benefit from specialized procedures designed to preserve function and support long-term wound healing whenever possible.
Why do patients choose Querétaro for reconstructive surgery?
Many patients choose Querétaro because they can get specialized reconstructive surgery. They also receive personalized care in a comfortable setting. Retirees, expatriates, and international visitors often appreciate the opportunity to combine consultations, surgery, and follow-up care during an extended stay.
What should I bring to a reconstructive surgery consultation?
Bring any previous surgical records, imaging studies, pathology reports, medication lists, and referrals from other healthcare providers. These documents let the reconstructive plastic surgeon review your medical history and evaluate your condition fully. They also help the surgeon recommend the best treatment plan for your needs.
